Sun, Siesta, Shopping

The first stop on our traditional Sunday's exploration trip was this time the sleepy village of La Dormida. We had a drink break at a local road-side restaurant where the hospitable owners indulged us with fresh strawberry juice.

After the thirst was sated we continued to the main goal of our trip, another little village called Olmué.

All feeling hungry we decided to search a nice restaurant. La Doña Mercedes is actually an event center, which means that in addition to the restaurant one can organise events of all kinds there.

The restaurant's menu consisted of typical Chilean cuisine. Here is pastel de choclo, a sweet mashed corn casserole with little "surprises" inside, like a boiled egg, beef and chicken.

And a chicken with a sorted salad.

The guys having a siesta in the sun, although it was interrupted by tiny little ants.

After lunch we went to explore the centre of the village.

There were two parks where the locals like to spend time on Sundays.

The best places for shopping are the traditional stands where the locals sell self-made stuff: jewels, knits, souvenirs and the like.

The knits for children are colourful and usually made of alpaca wool.

Olmué is a nice little village and offers plenty of more action, but this time we opted for the lazy side of Sunday'svillage hopping. ;) With the sun slowly setting and turning the wind cold, we decided it's time to drive home again!

Back To The Future

A little haven in the middle of Vitacura is Museo de la Moda, the fashion museum of Santiago.

The cool upside-down cars made me wanting to pose. ;)

This is where the tour begins. The current exhibition takes the visitor back to the 80s and 90s. Who still remembers VHS tapes?

DeLorean is a legendary car in which Michael J. Fox travelled to the past in the movie Back to the Future. According to the museum the car is an iconic object which helps you to appreciate the spirit of the 80s.

It is strange to see your own childhood and youth on display in a museum. Are we that old already?! Who thought that it was ever stylish? And who else wore swimming suits with the ruffled hem?

Chanel speaks for itself. The dress was one of the only in style that without any alterations could still be worn today.

The 80s was materialistic, eccentric and excessive in colours. How could the flower power, hippie-style fashion and pastel colours of the 70s turn into the neon coloured, flashing trends of the 80s and 90s?

The museum had some really cool pieces on display. Guess who wore this jacket in a movie? Hint: the ex-governor of California. That's right! Arnold Schwarzenegger was the Terminator.

80s and 90s was such a disco era!

Slow dances cheek to cheek.

Perhaps the most iconic pair of the 80s, principe Carlos y princesa Diana.

The house was the family residence of a local cotton textile manufacturers called Yarur which was later turned into a museum. The foundation of the Museo de la Moda was created by Jorge Yarur Bascuñán, their son.

The living room and this bedroom are remodelations of the Yarur family's style of living. I love the Japanese details such as the bed: simple but imposing.

This lamp was actually not a part of the exhibition but I still had to photograph it! It belongs to the museum, which has been slightly influenced by the Japanese style.

Bye bye the 80s!

A park in Vitacura.

Would you look at that! Vitacura has dedicated one little street to Finland. :)

Fair Flair

Great pastime for a cloudy Sunday can be a stroll around a park after a nice lunch at your favourite pizzeria.

Each Sunday the local antique vendors gather on Plaza Peru selling ridiculously overprized antiques and unique rarities.

They have really neat stuff, like these frames...

Fengshui crystal...

... and like this radio. Unfortunately the prices scare off most potential buyers, such as myself! Or would you be willing to pay hundreds of Euros for something that was actually brought from Europe?

Well, I can still keep on dreaming, can't I? Can you imagine what stories these magical pieces would tell if they could?

I found home from an old globe! Austria was scratched off. ;)

Also this Dodge was for sale.

Later that day we had a glimpse of the past and got back to the future, but I will tell you about that another time... Until then, let's keep singing in the rain!

Life isn't about waiting
for the storm to pass
but learning to dance
in the rain.
